How to Design an Easy-To-Clean Living Room

Nobody wants to spend their entire free time wiping down tables, scrubbing floors and vacuuming the carpets. But you can’t just not do it, but there are some things you can do to cut down the time it takes to do it. One way you can help yourself is to by designing an easy to clean and low maintenance living room. It is always nice to have your living room clean because it is a place where you will relax and connect with your family.

Clean Out Anything You Don’t Use

The easiest and best way to keep your living room clean is by throwing out everything that you don’t use. If you haven’t used something in a month and its collecting dust, you need to get rid of it. Don’t store things that you don’t use in a closet or drawers, don’t hold on to it, get rid of it.

Don’t throw it all away, donate, sell or recycle as much as you can. If you have a lot of magazines and books that you haven’t looked at for a long time, give them away to friends and family, and if they don’t want them you can recycle them. You can also recycle things like unfinished crafts, broken toys and supplies.

Use Enclosed Containers for Storage

By storing your leftover signs in an enclosed container you are keeping everything dust-free and out of sight. You can store them under the couches, desks, chairs or tables. If you are not planning on anybody seeing it, it doesn’t matter how it looks, but if you want to keep it in sight go for a nice decorative bracket that has a cover. If you have something small to store, put it in zip lock bags so it doesn’t get lost. Take anything that you don’t use on a day to day basis and store it in some boxes or drawers so it’s not just laying around.

Make Better Use of Your Bookshelves

Make a selection of books that you want to keep and donate the ones you don’t. Store all the books on the shelf and nicely arrange them. You can dedicate one whole shelf to the special hardcover ones, one for reference books and other books you often use. The ones that you don’t use or those that are destroyed, you can put them in a recycle pile. Don’t overcrowd your shelves, leave enough space for a feather duster so you can dust your shelves.

Make Better Use of Your Cabinets

You can display things that are hard to dust into your display cabinet. Display your expensive china, figurines or photos in picture frames. Choose things that are really sentimental and shouldn’t be touched or be having dust falling on them.

Pick a Low Maintenance Floor

When you are designing an easy-to-clean living room, having a floor that is easy to clean up is a must. Vinyl is a good option because it doesn’t stain and it’s super easy to mop. The only thing you need to worry about when you have vinyl floors is that you don’t expose it to large amounts of water because it can ruin it. And the best thing about it, it comes in any colour you can imagine.

Always Stay On Top Of Cleaning

The best way to keep your living room clean at all times is by doing little things every day. By wiping your cabinets and straightening a few things every day, running the vacuum weekly you will keep the living room clean and neat all the time. Another great thing to do to keep your living room clean at all times is washing the windows once in a while. But some people are just too busy to do those things regularly and they need to ask for help from companies like Simply Spotless Cleaning to do it for them, and there is no shame in having help.

Be Realistic About the Amount of Storage You Need

It is really important that you set up your living room storage to be as efficient as possible because that will not only make the room stay clean it will also make it breathe. If your bookshelves are overstuffed and cabinets have a lot of stuff in them it will not only make it look messy it will be hard to clean.

Add Colour to the Room

By adding colour to your living room it will make space look more dynamic. By having your living room look dynamic, you will make it look less messy at all times because the colours will make the whole room look harmonious

Group Similar Things

Having things scattered around the room will make it look messy, even if it’s not. Put things together that will be displayed as a collection. It will also make it look less like a mess and look like a group of things.

Use Symmetry to Make It Easier To Clean

Creating symmetry and balance in your living room will be pleasing to the eye and make your whole room feel more organised and clean. This does not mean to put things in straight lines, you should put equal items on either side of the centre. It will look cleaner but it will also be easier to clean if there are fewer things about the room.

Place Things Neatly Around the Room

There is a big difference between putting things away neatly and just putting them wherever. Let’s say you store your shoes in your living room, you will make the whole setting look cleaner and put together. Leaving things neatly put away you leave them there will make your cleaning time much shorter.

It doesn’t matter if you are thinking about remodelling or wanting to make your current layout more efficient, it is important that you keep your living room clean and put away. Creating an environment that is easy to clean will make your life much easier and less stressful.
